About Us
A Brief History
Spa Theatre Company originally came into being as a non-profit making organisation in 1981 and was known as the Spa Sprouts.
It was set up to nurture and develop the talents of a group of children who, until that time, had only the opportunity to appear on stage when and if one of the local adult companies was performing a show.
During the next nine years, the company’s membership developed and was able to stage very successful annual productions from among its own core of members.
In 1991, a decision to stage the hit musical West Side Story was taken. This required more mature performers and led to the introduction of open auditions for adults and to the formation of the Spa Theatre Company.
This format proved to be both successful and beneficial in that it
allowed the company to expand its repertoire, whilst continuing to
offer a first-class grounding in music, speech and drama.
It afforded the younger members the opportunity to work with
more experienced performers and by the age of sixteen,
they would be able to move into the senior company.
